The Exeter Chiefs Community team are working with key club sponsor Centrax and Exeter College to help deliver the highly-successful ‘Move Like A Pro’ programme.
Now into it’s second year, the 12-week programme is aimed at people who are not particularly active, inspiring a legacy of long-term lifestyle change across the rugby fan community.
Move Like A Pro is all about moving more, sitting around less, and feeling better about yourself in the process. It has also been awarded funding as part of Sport England’s strategy to improve people’s health and mental wellbeing through sport and activity.
This year the programme is being delivered in workplaces, and is aimed at employees that would like to improve their activity levels from jobs that may now allow them to do so on a day-to-day basis.
Heading up the programme for the Chiefs is Community coach Richard Bright, who is holding weekly, evening sessions after a working day, which allow Centrax employees to enjoy a session with other colleagues. These sessions are not all about playing rugby, so sessions vary from little fitness circuits to increasing heart rate of those attending, to fun games such as Ultimate Frisbee.
“It is great to get out to those who may not be as active as they would like to due to their job,” said Richard. “This programme is not just about the hour I am at the session, but overall it allows them the opportunity to improve their health.
“Already some of the employees at Centrax are making good lifestyle choices. Little changes such as improving their daily step count and physical activity is having a positive effect on them both physically and mentally.”
