It was great to hold our Chiefs Community Defender Cup at Newton Abbot RFC on Sunday 14th April.

After two cancelled festivals due to bad weather and pitch conditions, it was great to finally host the U12’s festival. We had 12 teams enter, with these teams coming from: Brixham, Camborne, Cullompton, Exeter Saracens, Newton Abbot, Tavistock, Barnstaple, Penzance and Newlyn, Plymstock Oaks, Teignmouth, Topsham, Torquay and Exeter Athletic.

It was a great day with lots of good rugby on show, along with lots of smiles on faces with children enjoying themselves. We had over 200 boys taking part in the festival, with Newton Abbot RFC winning the overall event. As a result, they can now look forward to an exclusive trip to the Premiership Rugby Final at Twickenham.

Massive ‘thank you’ to Defender for allowing the festival to run. Defender’s support is vital in fostering the values at the heart of the game. This event is designed to provide aspiring young players the chance to play competitive rugby in a format to aid their development, all within the spirit of rugby’s core values.

Newton Abbot RFC also did a great job with the pitches and facilities to make this Defender Cup so successful.

We look forward to holding another festival in the 24/25 season.
