Channel 5’s next run of Gallagher Premiership fixtures to include first Saracens match at Spurs Stadium and Bath’s return to Twickenham
Live rugby returns to Channel 5 in March as the broadcaster and Premiership Rugby confirm the Rounds 15, 16, 17 and 18 fixtures.
Amongst the mouth-watering match-ups are Saracens against Harlequins at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Bath versus Wasps at Twickenham.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be the 39th venue for the Gallagher Premiership as Saracens kick off their five-year deal to play The Showdown at the home of Spurs on Saturday 28 March (ko 15:00).
West Country outfit Bath head to Twickenham for the fourth edition of The Clash, this time hosting Wasps ten years on from the last time the fixture was played at HQ. The Round 17 match will be live on Channel 5 on Saturday 18 April, kicking off at 14:00.
On Easter Weekend, Saturday 11 April, Bristol welcome current league leaders Exeter to Ashton Gate for another live Channel 5 fixture kicking off at 15:00. Bristol got the best of their South West rivals early on in the season and the Chiefs will be looking to exact revenge for their narrow home defeat in November 2019.
And the week after The Clash, the Chiefs will be back on Channel 5 for their visit to Northampton Saints. The Midlands outfit will be looking to shave away some of Exeter’s lead at the top of the table at Franklin’s Gardens – and to make amends for equalling their largest ever Premiership defeat, when the two teams clashed in Round 11 at Sandy Park.
Caj Sohal, Head of Sport for Channel 5, said: “We’re bringing another four fantastic matches to fans as this close season continues to excite every round. All the matches are must-see fixtures and it is particularly exciting to be broadcasting Premiership Rugby’s first trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as well as covering a fan favourite with The Clash at Twickenham.”
Mark Brittain, Chief Commercial Officer of Premiership Rugby, said: “The next rounds of Gallagher Premiership Rugby to be broadcast on Channel 5 are four must-see fixtures that will showcase not only the battle for the top of the table but our 39th Premiership Rugby venue in Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Our last fixture on Channel 5 – Big Game 12 in December when Harlequins faced Leicester – drew an audience of over half a million viewers and we expect these matches to prove equally popular with fans.”
