Chiefs U18s side to face London Irish

Exeter Chiefs Under-18s kick-off their new season tomorrow when they play host to London Irish at Sandy Park (2pm).

Ahead of what should be an exciting campaign for the Academy youngsters, the players have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure they hit the 2017/18 campaign fully firing.

Again it’s an exciting and talented mix of players that have been selected by the Chiefs for their seasonal opener against the Exiles.

Scrum-half Sam Maunder, younger brother of current Chiefs and England star Jack Maunder, skippers the side, which also includes the likes of Richard Capstick, Rus Tuima, Olly Toomey and Lewis Pearson.

Looking ahead to the game, Academy coach Marek Churcher said: “We’ve had a real good build up to the match with two friendlies against Cardiff Blues and Dorset & Wilts Under-20s. Seeing over 40 lads play in these games made selection for this weekend very tough, but that’s a good problem to have as coaches!

“Training has been excellent and we are really excited to see this group of players go out and perform together. It’s great also for these players to come together and play at Sandy Park.”

Entry to tomorrow’s game is FREE for all and there will be hot drinks and refreshments available to purchase on the day. Supporters who park on site at the stadium are reminded parking charges do apply.
