Will Chudley is to leave Exeter Chiefs at the end of the season to join Aviva Premiership rivals Bath.

The 29-year-old scrum-half is to depart Sandy Park after six years with the Devon club, during which time he has played an instrumental role in the rise of the Chiefs.

Signed by Rob Baxter from Newcastle Falcons during the summer of 2012, the Kettering-born back has proved an astute signing, producing a catalogue of outstanding displays during his 119 appearances to date for the Chiefs.

Chudley's outstanding skill-set and personality, coupled with his game understanding, have made him a popular figure both on and off the field during his time with the Chiefs.

A member of last season's Premiership-winning side that saw off Wasps in the final at Twickenham last May, Chudley will be aiming to bow out on a high by helping the Chiefs to try and defend their title crown.

"I've had six unbelievable years with the Chiefs," said Chudley. "I've been very lucky to be part of something very special here at the club and the friends I've made during my time in Exeter will last for a lifetime.

"I knew when I moved to the Chiefs from Newcastle that I was joining a hugely ambitious club and that has proved the case. Each year people have seen the progression of the club and to be part of the team that won the Premiership last year was a very special moment for me.

"Although I've not got that long left with the club, I'm determined to make sure I end my time here with the Chiefs on a real high. We're in a great position in the league and we've still got so much to play for, so I'll be doing all I can to help us achieve a big finish."

Chudley has also heaped praise on his team-mates, the club's coaching staff and the supporters for all their backing they have given him during his time with the club.

"The Chiefs are a special club," he added. "From the boys you work with every day in training to all of the coaches, they've all made my time here so special. I've no doubt I've become a better player and a better person from being with the Chiefs.

"Equally, the fans from day one have been brilliant with me. Whether it's here at Sandy Park or on the road, they are always there in numbers offering you that backing. Again, I can't thank them enough for their support over the years."
