England Women's head coach, James Rodwell, has named his 13-player group for this weekend’s Rugby Europe Sevens Trophy Series in Zagreb (11-12 June and live on www.rugbyeurope.tv).

Exeter Chiefs young stars, Maisy Allen & Merryn Doidge, return to the 7s squad after representing England in the inter-squad exhibition matches at London 7s and recent World Series events.

They take on Hungary, Georgia and Moldova in Pool A.

Celia Quansah is in line for her first appearance of the season after recovering from injury while Abbie Brown captains the side.

Fellow core sevens players Ellie Boatman, Heather Cowell, Grace Crompton, Amy Wilson Hardy, Alicia Maude, Isla Norman Bell and Jodie Ounsley are selected, whilst Jade Shekells (Worcester Warriors) and Lauren Torley (DMP Durham Sharks) also return following the London exhibition matches.

Rodwell said: “The inter-squad games at London 7s were invaluable experience. It was amazing to see so many players wearing an England shirt at Twickenham in front of friends, family and a home crowd.

“Hopefully that will also stand us in good stead ahead of Birmingham 2022.

“We are now looking forward to getting out to Zagreb and continuing our preparations for the Commonwealth Games and the World Cup qualifier.

“We have selected a squad of players who have all played on the World Series this year and I’m excited to see them go out and play in a Rugby Europe event. We have a good blend of experience and relatively young and new players within the group and are looking forward to seeing how they fare.”
