Following confirmation of the European Champions Cup fixtures for the 2018/19 season, the Exeter Chiefs European Cycle Challenge for 2018 will be a trip to Castres.

This year's event will be the fourth such challenge for the Chiefs Cycling Club, who will go about tackling the 520-mile route over six days, starting as always from Sandy Park on October 14.

The ride will cyclists take the overnight ferry from Plymouth to Santander, before they embark on a picturesque route through Northern Spain, the Pyrenees and Southern France, before joining the rest of the Travelling Tribe in Castres 24 hours before the Chiefs play their Pool 2 fixture on Saturday, October 20 (2pm).

Previous rides in recent years have already raised over £50,000 for the Exeter Foundation, the club's official charity, and the detailed planning for the ride has already commenced.

Those taking part in the ride, which is again being supported by SW Comms and the 5D Group, will stay in small hotels on the way down and will again be supported by an expert 'back up' team who will be providing hot drinks, shelter, refreshment and moral support along the way.

Organiser David Cosford said: “There are a large number of cycling enthusiasts who support Exeter Rugby and this is a great opportunity for them to not only combine two of their passions, but also have a great time and raise money for a very worthy cause.”

To help with the training, Exeter Chiefs Cycling will be organising sociable training rides (via a coffee shop) in the leading up to the ride, so visit their official website here

Places to take part in the Exeter Rugby European Cycle Challenge are limited to 30, so interested parties are invited to go to the Exeter Chiefs Cycling website where they can register for the ride or contact David Cosford at david.cosford@5dgroup.co.uk
