Exciting Initiative Promoting Girls' Rugby Ahead of 2025 Women’s World Cup
In a ground-breaking move to promote women's rugby, Project Rugby has been launched in schools across Exeter for girls aged 12-16.
This initiative, introduced in anticipation of the Women’s World Cup in Exeter 2025, aims to increase participation among underrepresented groups, including Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic communities, as well as those from lower socio-economic backgrounds and individuals with disabilities.
In partnership with Premiership Rugby, Gallagher, and England Rugby, the project creates an inclusive environment where young females can explore the sport. The initiative features “Pitch Up and Play” sessions, led by Exeter Chiefs player Ebony Jefferies, designed for girls interested in trying rugby for the first time.
If the girls enjoy playing rugby, the program will facilitate their transition into local clubs, helping them continue their journey in the sport. This approach aims to make rugby accessible and enjoyable while providing a fantastic opportunity for young girls to develop new skills, build confidence, and engage with a supportive community.
By fostering a love for rugby, the initiative is empowering the next generation of female athletes. Interested participants are encouraged to join the ongoing sessions and take part in this exciting journey into the world of rugby.
