Exeter Outreach U23 side to face Taunton

Exeter Chiefs Under-23s will be looking to continue a positive weekend of rugby at the club, when they face Taunton Titans XV at Ivybridge Rugby Club tonight (8pm).

Skills Coach Ricky Pellow will be overseeing the Chiefs side, who face a Taunton side flying high in the National League Two South and he knows that they will bring a strong game.

“Taunton are doing really well in their league, and pushing to get promote so it’ll be a good challenge for us,” said Pellow.

“We’ve played a couple of fixtures with this group, which is a mixture of players from a range of clubs all over Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. We’re building towards the game against the Navy here at Sandy Park on March 4 and these players will be pushing for selection for that Exeter Braves squad. A big thank-you goes out to the local clubs for letting the players take part. Allowing us to build links with the local clubs is really important to Exeter Chiefs.".

The last outing for the U-23s side came at Devonport Services, where the young Chiefs overcame the Navy U-23's 36-7 with a convincing performance.

“There’s a few guys in there that need some game time, with Patrick Schickerling, Flynn Elworthy and Will Norton all starting," added Pellow. "As well as getting that game time into our guys, it’ll be good to see those players that may have slipped through our system at a younger age, but who may have developed a little later. It's important to reward those guys. The likes of Rhys Palmer and George Banfield have come in and been really strong in the midfield in past games for us.”

Kick-off for the game is at 8pm, car parking and refreshments will be available at Ivybridge Rugby Club.
