A staggering £79,000 has been split between 22 different charities at a special cheque presentation conducted by the Exeter Chiefs Foundation at Sandy Park.

Representatives from all of last season’s designated charities were invited guests for Sunday’s Allianz Cup fixture between Exeter Chiefs Women and Harlequins Women.

Ahead of kick-off, however, each of them were rewarded for their efforts last season with funds split following bucket collections held on each home match day.

Over the past season, the Exeter Chiefs Foundations has been very busy, supporting 17 new projects within the local community, totalling over £120,000, as well as running a successful joint legacy fund to support three additional projects, which totalled £150,000 between them in funding.

Foundations Trustees, led by chairman Tony Rowe OBE, handed out cheques to representatives from the following charities:

  • Action for Children
  • AGE UK
  • Basics Devon
  • Brain Tumour Support
  • Challenge Ahead
  • Children’s Hospice South West
  • Dream-a-Way
  • Exeter Athletic RFC
  • Exeter Dementia Action Alliance
  • Exeter Leukaemia Fund
  • Exeter Lions Club
  • FORCE
  • It’s In The Bag
  • Jay’s Aim
  • Royal Marines Charity
  • See the Future
  • South West MS Centre
  • Stanley Beau Foundation
  • Vranch House

Mr Rowe said: “It’s been another fantastic year of fundraising from the charities involved with the Exeter Chiefs Foundation. Through their efforts here on a match-day, we are able not only to assist their own charity, but also many other great causes around the local area.

“This past season in particular has surpassed all previous years, so a great deal of credit must go to all of those volunteers who have given up their time to come and collect what is much-needed funds for all these charities.”
