Students from the Exeter Chiefs HITZ programme have been helping to develop their skill-sets out in the work place by teaming up with Irebuild on a project in Cornwall.
Irebuild is a company that believes in rebuilding lives, not just structures, and a big part of its ethos is to give education and employment to vulnerable people, whether that be through apprenticeships or by working with those on the HITZ programme.
Coming under the watchful eye of Phil Ireland, the team spent a morning of hard work learning wood work skills, as well as preparing the land for tree planting.
The Irebuild projects are designed using the latest innovations in sustainable and environmentally conscious building materials and techniques, which is why they go into so much detail.
The team learnt about the amount of CO2 that is used to build a property and how the homeowners are planting a large volume of trees on their land to counter the pollution from the building process.
HITZ officer Gareth Williams was delighted with the work carried out on the project and paid special praise Venturi Water Sports and IreBuild for supporting his team at the build.
Irebuild also offer Extreme Sports Training through Venturi Water Sports, who allowed the HITZ group to spend the afternoon body boarding and surfing.
Gareth said: "We have been fortunate to have worked with Phil and his team for a number of years. Not only are they helping to offer support, flexibility and training, but those from our group are being able to gain vital skills and qualifications that enable them to build new futures."
