Exeter Chiefs star Stuart Hogg has been recognised at the best full-back in the world in 2021.

The Scotland international captain has been named in World Rugby Men’s 15s Dream Team of the Year having broken his nation’s all-time try-scoring record this Autumn.

Hogg scored his 25th try for his country against Japan in November, surpassing the 24 scored by Tony Stanger and Ian Smith to stand alone in the all-time list.

The 29-year-old has enjoyed a busy 12 months, helping the Chiefs to a fifth successive Gallagher Premiership Final, before joining club-mates Luke Cowan-Dickie, Jonny Hill and Sam Simmonds in the British & Irish Lions squad that toured South Africa last summer.

He tarted in the first two Tests of the series before missing out on selection in the final decisive match of the series to Welshman Liam Williams.

Hogg, however, has returned to Exeter this Autumn in superb form, while also starring for Scotland in their Autumn Nations Series wins against Australia and Japan, and 15-30 defeat to the Springboks when he scored a brace.

Players from seven nations – Australia, England, France, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland and South Africa – have been selected in the Dream Team by the World Rugby awards panel with all four of the Men’s 15s Player of the Year nominees included.

The players selected boast a combined 850 caps for their countries with the world champion Springboks having the most representatives with five, followed by New Zealand with three.
