A strong Cornish Pirates side were victorious over a young Chiefs XV on Friday night at Mennaye Field.

The Championship secured a 61-14 score-line in the pre-season friendly as both sides continue to prepare for their 2025/26 campaigns.

Pirates scored five in the first half while both sides were thwarted by sin-binnings. Chiefs at one point reduced to 13 men when Iwan Jenkins and Jed Findlay were yellow carded just two minutes apart.

England U18's Ollie Batson got Chiefs on the board in the opening minute of the second half while Ollie Miall scored Chiefs' only other try in the 65th minute.

Pirates, already with a lengthy lead, scored four more tries to put the final stamp on their win.

The Chiefs XV will now prepare for a second friendly against Coventry at Butts Park Arena on Saturday, 20 September.
