Saunders leaves Chiefs to recover from head injury

Exeter Chiefs Women’s centre Molly Saunders has left the club to recover fully from a head injury she suffered in pre-season.
The 23-year-old joined the club last summer having played for Warriors, Wasps, Richmond and Harlequins.
Saunders picked up the injury against Gloucester-Hartpury in the PWR Up series, but ongoing concussion symptoms have prevented her from returning to play.
Despite this, Saunders has been coaching the girls’ teams at Exeter College, which forms part of the Chiefs’ pathway.
Head coach Susie Appleby said: “Molly was supposed to come to us and play a significant part in our season, but sadly, for her and us, that has not happened.
“However, she has made an outstanding contribution to the young female players at Exeter College. As a qualified strength and conditioning instructor, she has been invaluable in the gym but has also been an excellent rugby coach. I know she has been appreciated by the college players, and we value her contribution to this generation of potential future Chiefs.”
Saunders will receive specialist treatment before travelling and concentrating on her new business - Sport Exchange - that introduces 15s and sevens rugby players to overseas clubs.
She said: “This was not the plan for this season. It has been very frustrating not to be able to play, but I have enjoyed my time with Chiefs while coaching and working with the players at Exeter College. I hope I can return to playing rugby at some point but need to sort out my head first.”
