Exeter Chiefs scrum-half Stuart Townsend has been handed a five-week suspension after appearing before an independent disciplinary panel on Tuesday night.

Townsend was cited by independent citing commissioner Chris Sharp following the Gallagher Premiership match between Leicester Tigers and Exeter Chiefs on Saturday, December 5.

He was cited for dangerous play in a ruck or maul, contrary to World Rugby Law 9.20a.

The player accepted the charge and will be free to play again on January 12, 2021.
