Exeter Chiefs U18s ended their campaign on a high as they beat RGC at Kingsholm on finals day on Sunday.

It has been a challenging few weeks for the young Chiefs team who locked horns with Bath, Harlequins, Saracens, Gloucester and Bristol in the group stages.

Each game presented different challenges which will help the players grow and improve as they progress in their careers.

The final game saw the Chiefs U18s play a Welsh invitational side; RGC who proved to be tough opponents, however the Chiefs came away with the spoils 19-0 with tries from Reuben Ramirez (Exeter College/Exeter Saracens RFC), Rory O'Kane (Truro College/Penryn RFC) and Ollie Batson (Exeter School/Exmouth RFC) with O'Kane converting two of the three tries.

U18 Academy Manger Marc Dibble said: "it was great for the lads to finish with a strong performance against a resilient RGC team. The group have worked hard throughout the season and result wise it’s been frustrating with scorelines not going our way and not reflecting the performance of the squad as a whole, but that’s the nature of this competition and playing at the highest level of rugby the lads can achieve at this age, the learning will prove invaluable although the goals were not completely achieved."

It is a period of transition for the players who now look to options that lie ahead. Many will stay within the pathway and attend the University of Exeter while some will go further afield.

Academy Manager Rob Gibson added: “I would like to thank and praise the whole squad and coaches for their contributions. We look forward to supporting their development in the coming seasons both on and off the field."

“We now start the cycle again. The Academy League next year offers a larger fixture list with the National Academy League starting in August. This provides a great opportunity and experience to play against the northern academies also. The squad for next year is already preparing and we eagerly await the challenges ahead."
