Another Maunder, another Exeter-born Chiefs scrum half.
Sam Maunder was always destined to play rugby after his family hit such heights in the sport. His father, Andrew, won 149 league caps for Exeter and his brother, Jack, made it into the Chiefs senior side at just 19 years of age and played a part in the Premiership-winning side of 2016/17.
With a rugby-mad family, Sam aims to emulate his brother’s career path after being named in the England U17 side to face France in 2017. Maunder made his England Under-20s debut in the 2019 Six Nations against Ireland - and was part of the squad for the World Rugby U20 Championship that year.
Educated at Blundell’s School in Tiverton, Sam captained his team to the national final of the Champions Cup in 2017 and was picked to captain the Chiefs Academy U18 side for the season.
He made his Chiefs debut in their Gallagher Premiership fixture at home to Sale Sharks in September 2018 - and has since gone on to push hard for a starting spot in the Exeter No.9 jersey.
The 2021/22 season proved a real breakthrough campaign for the talented back, who come the end of the season had established himself as the club's first-choice scrum half.
